M.C.A.D Investigator Accused of Misconduct Resigns

Roosevelt Simile, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (M.C.A.D.) investigator who allegedly harassed and sexually assaulted one of his clients, was forced to resign on September 16, 1999, after nearly three months of inquiry. According to one of the M.C.A.D. staff members, it is in the best interest of Mr. Simile to make that decision which may avoid him from facing tougher sanctions.

Mr. Simile, a Haitian immigrant, has worked for the M.C.A.D. for many years. Three month ago, a woman identified only as Chantal, alleged that the investigator sexually assaulted on a couch and performed oral sex on her, then threatened to blow her discrimination case should she speak out about his criminal conduct. After a long period of intimidation, Chantal

finally broke her silence and decided to speak to The Boston Connection. A few days after The Boston Connection broke the story, the M.C.A.D. referred the case to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for a criminal investigation and placed Mr. Simile on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Last week the investigator informed Chantal about Simile’s resignation. She has expressed her satisfaction about the way that the M.C.A.D. handled the case. "I will not file any lawsuit against M.C.A.D.," she declared, but she has not decided whether or not she will press criminal charges against her alleged abuser. According to the District Attorney’s Office, she will have to sign a released form should she decide to wave her right to bring Simile to court. ¨
